Steve
Abbott was born and raised in Anniston, Alabama and now lives in Calera,
Alabama. His interest in art was developed when he was very young, and
influenced strongly by his Dad and Grandmother, both of whom painted in
oils. Steve’s youngest son and his cousin are both professional artists
working in oils.
Although he did not get an opportunity to study art in any professional
art institutions, Steve minored in Art in college where he refined his
drawing and painting skills. He has had a varied professional career –
he retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Lt. Col. in 1992, he is now an
attorney and a Licensed Professional Counselor. He has, however, been
actively painting during all his career shifts. To further develop his
artistic skills he has attended classes and workshops. He has studied
from well-known artists such as
Casey
Baugh and
Qiang Huang.
He also learns from DVD instruction from artists such as
Richard
Schmid,
David Leffel,
Dan
Gerhartz,
Morgan Weistling,
Scott
Burdick,
Jean Chambers,
Jeremy Lipking,
Zhaoming Wu,
Quang
Ho,
Robert Johnson,
Tom Browning,
Leonard Wren,
and
Jeffery Watts. His paintings show a mixture of drawing
accuracy, smoothly blended areas and expressive loose brush strokes
Steve is a self-representing daily painter. He advertises his updated
work on his blog, and markets his paintings with eBay auctions.
