Nan Perry was
born in Ashland, Alabama which lies at the foot of the Appalachian
Mountain Range. Nearby Cheaha National Park is a popular site for
tourists and locals. When Nan developed an avid interest in oil
painting, the lush greens and rolling hills of her surroundings fostered
a love for rural landscape and country nuances, which she translates to
her canvas.
After pursuing a degree in education, she presently teaches
English and art in a local high school. Although never receiving a
formal art education, Nan is constantly seeking ways to improve her
skill. She has studied with such artists as Jane Kirk, Judith Jordan,
Donny Finley, Roger Dale Brown, and Paul McCormick, and Dot Svendson.
Travel in England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, Canada, and the western
United States has broadened her palette.
A resident artist of Marble
Gate Gallery on Ashland’s Court Square, her work is on permanent
display. In addition, her work can be seen in local restaurants. Her
periodic participation in local art exhibits and commission work keeps
her busy. Nan’s goal as an artist is to capture the wonder of the often
overlooked ordinary, the commonplace beauty around us, those little
details that make all the difference in our daily lives when we stop to
pay attention. |
